IAEA Technical Meeting Held in Suzhou
From 10th Oct. to 12th Oct. 2018, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) technical meeting“recent advances in the treatment of emerging organic pollutants” is holding in Suzhou. It is well known that, emerging organic pollutants in wastewater or surface water becomes a hot point in recent years. This meeting is hosted by IAEA and China Atomic Energy Agency (CAEA), undertaken by CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator technology Co., Ltd. owned by CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, Tsinghua University. Representatives from over 10 Member States participate this meeting and discuss the feasibility of applying ionizing radiation technology (including gamma ray and electron beam) to decompose low concentration lever of emerging contaminates from wastewater.
Mr. Hu Dongming, the general manager of CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co., Ltd., attended the opening ceremony of technical meeting. Participants from the United States, Korea, India, Poland, etc., as well as China Isotope & Radiation Association, Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Suzhou University, Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Guangdong Nuclear Technology and its affiliates Dozens of leading experts from CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co., Ltd. and its subsidiary CGN Dasheng Electron Accelerator technology Co., Ltd. attended the meeting.
During last decades, CGN Dasheng and Tsinghua University have made outstanding breakthroughs in fields of electron beam for industrial wastewater and antibiotic sludge treatment, which has brought EB technology from bench-scale research to pilot demonstration and full-scale industrialization. These achievements have received high attention and positive evaluation from the International Atomic Energy Agency and international counterparts. Up to now, CGN Nuclear Technology Development Co., Ltd. has established EB industrial-scale textile and dyeing wastewater treatment projects in Jinhua, Zhejiang and Jiangmen, Guangdong, etc. Meanwhile, CGN will also build the first EB demonstration project of harmless treatment of antibiotic sludge in Yili, Xinjiang province.
In view of this, IAEA has determined that 2018 technical meeting held in Suzhou, where CGN Dasheng is located. IAEA plays an important role to apply electron beam technology for environmental conservation, and regards it as one of the main research directions for the peaceful use of atomic energy in the 21st century. Implementing of this international conference will significantly enhance China's international status in the field of emerging organic pollutants treatment technology and have a positive impact on the realization of China's related high-tech products "going out".
As a leading enterprise in China's electron accelerator industry, CGN Dasheng will continue to work with Tsinghua University to find a solution to current environmental pollution problems and expand the application of electron beam technology in environmental protection.
During the meeting, in addition to technical reports, new CRP proposal, participants will have technical visits to CGN Dasheng Accelerator manufacturing plant and China's first industrial-scale EB demonstration for textile and dyeing wastewater treatment in Jinhua city, Zhejiang province.

Milestone of Electorn Beam Technology for Wastewater Treatment
In China, The basic researches of ionizing radiation technology for wastewater treatment began in the 1990s. After more than ten years continuous work, the research team attained financial supports from National Natural Science Foundation, the “863” Program from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and also from IAEA Technical Cooperation projects, etc. Radiation-induced degradation and mechanism of refractory organic pollutants decomposition in various type of industrial wastewater have been made. Therefore, a combined process of electron beam plus conventional wastewater treatment methods has been developed.
In March 2017, China's first industrial-scale EB demonstration plant for textile and dyeing wastewater treatment was officially launched in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. That means CGN Dasheng and Tsinghua University made Chinese electron accelerator and environmental application up to the world-leading lever.
On October 16th, 2017, the scientific and technical achievements appraisal meeting, which was organized by China Nuclear Energy Industry Association, was hold in Tsinghua University, Beijing. Nine academic experts attended this meeting and unanimously identified as follows: electron beam technology for industrial wastewater treatment can efficiently decompose pollutants, which are difficult to be degraded by conventional methods. EB technology is the first in China and has reached the international leading level.
On March 30th, 2018, the Specification of Electron Beam Treatment of textile and Dyeing and Paper Wastewater, which was proposed by CGN Dasheng and Tsinghua University, were officially promulgated. This technical specification is the first technical standard for the global application of electron beam for industrial wastewater, filling the gap in international standards. The technical specifications were officially implemented on May 30th, 2018.
On April 11th, 2018, CGN Dasheng and Guanhua International Holdings' Jiangmen Guanhua Knitting Factory Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation project to applying electron beam for industrial wastewater treatment in Shenzhen. The two sides will cooperate to establish 7 electron accelerators to treat over 30,000m3/d textile and dyeing wastewater. This is China's first full-scale electron beam wastewater treatment plant above 30,000 tons per day. It is also the largest single project in the world to treat industrial wastewater with EB technology, marking the first step of large-scale commercialization application in China's electron beam treatment technology of industrial wastewater.
On July 19th, 2018, CGN Dasheng, National Environmental Protection Antibiotics Sludge Treatment and Resource Utilization Engineering Technology Center (the Ministry of Ecology and Environment relied on Yili Chuanning Biotechnology Co., Ltd.) and Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, Tsinghua University signed the Cooperation Agreement for Electron Beam Harmless Treatment of Antibiotics and Sludge Demonstration Projects in Beijing. This is the first time electron accelerators have been applied to the pharmaceutical industry, which means that the electron beam harmless treatment of antibiotic sludge technology has moved from lab-scale to industrial application.
Up to now, CGN Dasheng has carried out experimental research on wastewater from various types of industries such as textile and dyeing, papermaking, chemical industry and pharmaceuticals, and has formed a comprehensive treatment solution.
